  1. Congratulations on fulfilling your dream of living up north and opening Hornblower, Ruth and Alex. I’ll be up in June and will bring my friends Pat and George from
Montrose on Wed.15th…can I book a table please for 7pm? The next night I’ll be up at Val and Rosie’s. Planning ahead!
Look forward to see you both,
    Love,

    Ade

    • Thanks Ade! Hope you can come visit us one day! x

  3. Hi, think I need to make a road trip from Manchester to sample you excellent fish & chips looks 5 star on tv you must be proud.

    • Hi Louise & John,

We hope you can make the trip to see us, we have no doubt it would be worth the journey. Not only do we have the most amazing location with the harbour on our doorstep but the fish is as good as you’ll taste anywhere and that’s our secret.
Spoil yourselves and stay for a while in the North East, there’s plenty to do and see. Bring a brolly and some sun cream!
Let us know if you’re coming and we’ll save you a great table and spread the word down South for us.
Cheers for your comments it’s much appreciated

      Ruth & Alex

  4. Hi can u tell me just where abouts is gourdon …. can u please give me directions from forfar ….ps cant wait to taste ur fish and chips the best food in the world .

    • Hi Karen,
Thanks for your message, we hope you enjoyed watching us on MPW’s Kitchen Wars.

From Forfar you can either head towards Montrose and take the coast road from there and we’re about 15 mins North of Montrose, or stay on the A90 and take the road signposted Arbuthnott/Inverbervie and we’re 5 mins from there.

Last time we went to Forfar it only took us about 40 mins and we brought back some great bridies with us!

Look forward to seeing you soon

      Ruth & Alex

  5. ps forgot to say just watched u on tv

  6. Hi, I am from the Czech Republic and I am in Scotland on holiday. I’ve had coeliac disease since I was one year old and I love Scotland because it is so easy to find gluten-free food here. I’m in Dundee now and I will make a trip to Gourdon tomorrow for some gluten-free fish and chips. Save me some, please!

    • Of course we will! Would you like to book a table? Let me know, we look forward to seeing you!
      Ruth x

  7. Hi do you have disabled access?

    • Hi Fiona,

It really depends on the nature of the disability. Our takeaway is on the ground floor and is accessible and there are outside tables available. Our restaurant is on the first floor and has a staircase but no lift for the public and so not suitable for wheelchairs. Hope this helps answer your question,
      Kind regards
      Ruth

  8. We are regulars for a take-away at Hornblowers. We had a restuarant meal recently. We enjoyed the meal and the atmosphere but one small critisism the Sticky Toffee pudding had nuts in it instead of the traditional dates which spoiled it for me. There was not enough sauce to make it yummy.

    • Thanks for your message Mrs Gatt, our new recipe Stick Toffee a Pudding has the addition of pecans as well as dates. Apologies you did not had enough sauce, we could have given you some more had we known of your disappointment. Hope to see you again soon

  9. Hi there!!
My daughter and myself plan to visit Gourdon very soon..in early May….it is a very special visit..as my Mother grew up in Gourdon as a child back in 1920’s and 30’s.. I did visit the village in 1967 as a teen with my mum…..and now…I’m “coming back home”….with my daughter ..48 years later……we are travelling to Scotland from Canada…..so it’s quite a trip..and my daughter’s first time. Possibly on Monday May 4th…..to visit Gourdon..and I’d love to have a Fish and Chip supper at Hornblowers……do you recommend a reservation??..I would hate to be disappointed and not get a table….many thanks!….Sheena

    • Dear Sheena, thanks so much for your message, what a lovely adventure you are embarking on! I would really suggest coming on Wednesday 6th May as unfortunately we are not open in Monday or Tuesday. Please let me know if that suits?
      Kind regards
      Ruth

  10. Hi. Just read on your dietary requirements that you do a gluten free battered fish day in May for Coeliac awareness week. Are you doing it this year? I used to love your fish and chips before having to go gluten free. X

    • Dear Angela, thanks for your message. We are not holding a dedicated gluten free day this Msy as we offer a wide selection of free of gluten dishes EVERY day! Please look at our menu for more details and do not hesitate to call us for any further information

  11. Disappointed. No lobster. No prawns. No scallops…………

  12. Best fish and chips and crab cakes ever. And the cheesecake superb! Very friendly people too! Thank you very much! 😉

  13. Do you do the prize winning Cullen Skink from the World Championships by Mr Grahame?

    • Dear Gordon, we do not own and run Hornblowers any more. It is under new ownership therefore the cullen skink served is not Alex’s World Championship prize winning recipe, although I am sure they do serve a tasty soup.

  14. Please can I make a booking in the restaurant for 6:30 ish Saturday 29th July for 4 people

    • Hi Wendy, we do not own Hornblowers any more. It is now called Quayside and is run by Noel & Ewan. Sorry I cannot help further with your reservation but I suggest calling them directly.
